Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) is about creating a sustainable community where everyone feels safe, supported, and is able to thrive. It recognizes that safety goes beyond incident response, and includes social, cultural, health, economic, educational, and environmental factors that influence quality of life.
As per the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019, municipalities and regions in Ontario are required to develop a CSWB Plan that brings together local partners to identify shared priorities and take coordinated action to address complex community issues.
The 2027 - 2031 Community Safety and Well-Being Plan for Akwesasne, Cornwall, and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry will build on the 2022 Vibrant Communities Plan to ensure alignment of municipal, regional, and interest holder priorities, resources, and strategies, address urgent and emerging needs, and promote community safety and well-being across our region.
What are we doing?
This Plan is being developed collaboratively with regional partners, service providers, community organizations, residents, and people with lived experience to:
- Identify priority areas that impact community safety and well-being;
- Use evidence-based data, best practices, and community feedback to inform decision-making and recommendations;
- Strengthen coordination, navigation, and integrated service delivery;
- Build capacity and a long-term infrastructure; and,
- Support upstream whole system approaches to (crime) prevention, early intervention, and health promotion
