Engage with the City

The City of Cornwall (the City) has initiated a Master Planning process in accordance with Approach 2 of the Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to develop a Management of Biosolids, Organics and Septage Master Plan.The Master Plan study assessed various options to improve the management of three key waste streams currently handled at the municipal landfill: wastewater biosolids, source-separated organics (SSO), and hauled septage. The recommendations are presented in the Master Plan report, which is currently available for review at the City&rsquo;s website: <a href="https://www.cornwall.ca/en/resources/Cornwall-Biosolids-Organics-and-Septage-Master-Plan.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Biosolids, Organics and Septage Master Plan</a> - City of Cornwall <a href="https://www.cornwall.ca/en/resources/Cornwall-BOSMP---30-Day-Notice-of-Master-Plan_Dan-Lauzon.docx">By this notice</a>, the Master Plan is being placed on public record for a 30-day review period in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Class EA. PwC Canada has been engaged by the City of Cornwall and the University of Ottawa to conduct a socio-economic study of the Cornwall region to identify potential areas of opportunity that could influence economic growth in the region. The project will also explore how academic partnerships can advance the areas of opportunity.The study will include research into demographic factors and economic trends, as well as interviews with key community and business leaders. We&rsquo;re looking for your input on Cornwall&rsquo;s 2025 city budget.With the cost of living as it is, we know every dollar and every penny count. Like you, we put a lot of care into budgeting. That&rsquo;s how we provide core services, like fire protection, water services, and garbage collection, while also ensuring access to housing and maintaining public safety.We understand that financial constraints are a concern. Money is tight for households. The city is also encountering increased expenses, including employee wages, the need to replenish reserves, and the rising costs of goods and services that affect everyone and every municipality. The 2025 city budget will undoubtedly face pressures, limits, and &ndash; potentially &ndash; trade-offs. Budget 2025 Survey

The City of Cornwall is committed to Housing for All as a strategic pillar for this term of council. To get there, the City is developing a comprehensive approach that will lead to more housing options of all kinds, for everyone.The City is currently reviewing planning rules, zoning, and policies specifically related to emergency shelters as we anticipate future development proposals including for shelter facilities.Community input is important to the process. We will summarize the feedback we receive in a future report to the Council.The City is committed to working with residents, developers, and other interest holders to support and ensure we reach the goal of more safe, affordable, and appropriate homes for our growing population. We know that it will take ambition, action, and collaboration to address housing needs now and for the future.
